Contest Guidelines

CONTEST OBJECTIVES:
The purpose of the festivals and contests sponsored by BAMTA is to promote better musicianship among students, to provide performance experience with worth-while goals, to encourage quality instruction among teachers, and advance music education in the community.

STUDENT ELIGIBILITY:
Students must study with a BAMTA teacher. Students who receive outside coaching or instruction from someone other than a BAMTA teacher are not eligible for competition. They may perform "for critique only". Transfer students must have studied with current teacher a minimum of 3 months.

TEACHER ELIGIBILITY:
A teacher must be a member of BAMTA, dues current.

FEES:
Fees are are non-refundable.

REPERTOIRE REQUIREMENTS:
- Entrants must provide for the judge a copy of music to be preformed. No reproductions of printed music (either by hand or machine) may be provided for judges. If music is out of print or still in manuscript form, written permission from the publisher or copyright holder must be obtained to copy the music.
- Teachers names should not appear on music.
- Please number the measures in the music.
- Students may not perform pieces used in previous
contests.

VOICE STUDENTS: No microphones should be used. Accompaniment tapes may be used with approval from the contest committee. A copy of the music must be provided for the judge. Additional repretoire requirements are listed in individual contest rules.

GENERAL INFORMATION: Each teacher may enter as many students as desired. Teachers should follow the specific instructions given when entering students. The teacher should collect all entry fees from students and mail in one check for the total amount. Mail the check (payable to BAMTA), along with all entry forms, to the scheduling chariman on or before the stated deadline.
Only teachers can call and make schedule changes. No changes will be accepted from students or parents.
Teachers who enter students in the contest/festival have an obligation to help at the event in some way. Please contact the contest chariman to volunteer.
Students and/or teachers should refrain from any contact with the judge before an audtion.
Participants will receive ratings of I, II or III (at the Spring Competition only) a certificate, critique sheet and award (if applicable).
1. The number of divisions and finalists will be left to the discretion of contest committee according to the nuber of students entered.
2. Finalists, excluding alternates, are required to move up to the next division the following year.
